End of a Mongolian Roadtrip: Approaching Ulaanbaatar
For over a week, The Wandelgek had been roadtripping through northern and central Mongolia, sleeping in gers, visiting nomads and drinking kumiz, enjoying the evening sitting in front of his ger and photographing wild horses passing by, visiting several nature reserves, national parks and monasteries and staring at an unkbstructed Milky Way against the darkest canvasses of night sky…
But now he was nearing the end og that roadtrip, slowly but surely entering the bustling town of Ulaanbaatar, towards a hotelroom and a shower…
Before entering the town, it seemed like roads, electricity cable networks, railroads and maybe even rivers were leading towards a singular spot. Ulaanbaatar was definitely the center of Mongolia and maybe even of the world.
Somewhere halfway Ulaanbaatar some rich businessmen had decided to built a large Buddha statue…
There were some really magic moments during this last stretch of the roadtrip. Like e.g.: the views over the Tuul river...
…but the best moment was the train…
…it immediately reminded me that although this was the end of a magnificent roadtrip, it was not the end of my travels yet. In a couple of days, The Wandelgek would board the Trans Mongolian Express to travel further towards Beijing…
Then we entered Ulaanbaatar., a strange mix of appartment blocks and ger camps…
